The RCCG Drama Department’s journey began with a persistent faith to see drama formally recognized as a powerful tool for winning souls within the Redeemed Christian Church of God. In the early days, there was some resistance to formalizing a drama department. However, drama had been used intermittently within the mission for years, with many senior pastors, including the General Overseer, Pastor E.A. Adeboye, and his wife, Pastor (Mrs.) Foluke Adeboye, having participated in drama ministrations.
Before its official recognition, several vibrant drama groups like Redeemers Theatre and Mustard Seed Productions made significant impacts in the 1980s and 1990s. The Overcomers’ Production, a youth drama group, also featured prominently in various church programs.
The turning point came in 2007 when a team of passionate individuals from RCCG Zion Parish began a movement that led to a communique being sent to the General Overseer, requesting the formal approval of a drama department. This request was officially granted on August 21, 2008, with a directive for all RCCG pastors to establish the department in their parishes. From that point, the department was officially inaugurated by Pastor E.A. Adeboye at the RCCG Annual Convention.
